My wife is a concert pianist, graduated from medical school, graduated from another university in political science, speaks 4 languages. It took her 5 years go through the immigration process. She is now a US citizen. She is going for her doctorate degree in political science. She wants to be a professor. My stepdaughter wants to be a brain surgeon. These are the kind of immigrants we want in this country. She is upset that illegal immigrants are allowed to just cross the border.

I think no matter what kind of work they do and how they look and as longest they are vetted and no criminal records, I'll support their legalization instead. Specially the ones with longest time here like 10 years and back. They are only trying to provide for their families and they have us kids already, so keep their families together
We need to criminalize racism, xenophobia and fascism.
It's amazing the things are being said here in this site, we need to start prosecute that criminal activities any where and at any time and jail that type of poeple.

As an immigrant myself, granddaughter, and great granddaughter of immigrants, I wholeheartedly agree with legalization of immigrants who don't have a criminal record. I have done everything through the legal path, I have two postgraduate degrees, I speak four languages, and I still agree. Why? Because I am aware that not everyone has the good luck of being born in a country not torned apart by war or hunger, to caring parents who can afford to raise you so you can have resources –monetary, intellectual, and social– to endure the long, expensive, and sometimes cumbersome immigration process. OP's wife and OP should know better. Besides that, everyone in the USA without Native ancestry is descendent of an immigrant, or many immigrants.

The problem with amnesty of illegal immigrants is that congress always forgets to make laws to control more massive illegal immigration. The amnesty is just another attractant. Maybe the US should spend some effort to help the neighboring countries develop better economies that would make them more attractive for their citizens instead of the escape to the USA situation we have.

Yes…except you realize alot is due to our failed policies in South America. We still aren't getting it right with Argentina. Most people don't go thru the aggravation of moving to another country unless things are dire where they are. It would definitely be good if we could help them but I'm not so sure we know how. And would take many years of getting it right.
